About Aries

Hi, my name is Aries and I am a Dutch Shepherd mix. I am intelligent, versatile, and my breed originated in the Netherlands as a loyal herding dog. Dutch Shepherds are known for their distinctive brindle coat and three coat types (short, long, rough). We were originally bred as an all-purpose farm dog but we also excel in dog sports, police work, and search and rescue due to our high energy, trainability, and strong work ethic, requiring significant physical and mental exercise. We are confident, alert, and can be great family companions for active owners who can meet our needs. I am all of the above with the sweetest personality. I love giving kisses and cuddling as a sign of my affection. In order to deal with my high energy level - I NEED A JOB OR A VERY ACTIVE LIFESTYLE! I have a talent for catching and retrieving, and I thrive on learning new skills and commands. Activities like scentwork and tracking also appeal to me, leveraging my keen olfactory senses. I walk great on leash and I am the bestest girl in the car! With proper training and guidance, I am eager to reach my full potential as a sports or working dog. Temperament: Loyal, obedient, intelligent, confident, and energetic. They are watchful and can be reserved with strangers. Appearance: Medium-sized, well-muscled, with a wedge-shaped head and intelligent expression. The coat is always brindle, and comes in short, long, or rough textures. Exercise: High energy; needs extensive daily physical and mental stimulation like running, hiking, and dog sports (agility, obedience). Training: Highly trainable and eager to please, but need an experienced owner who understands and can handle our intelligence and drive. Grooming: Varies by coat type; short coats are lower maintenance, while long and rough coats require more intensive grooming. Health: Generally a healthy and hardy breed with a life expectancy of 12-15 years. Suitability Best for active individuals or families who can provide a "job" or purpose for the dog. Excellent for experienced dog owners familiar with working breeds. If interested in giving Aries a forever home please complete our application at safeanimalhaven.org
