Meet Gilbert! Gilbert is a tiny, hilarious, slightly dramatic king who knows exactly what he likes—and isn’t afraid to tell you. After Gilbert's human lost her job, she made the difficult choice to bring him to the vet for euthanasia because she couldn't afford his care. Luckily one of the vet techs refused to let that be the end of Gilbert's story, and he landed with us at Miri's Haven. Gilbert is a chill guy who’s perfected the art of cozy living. His favorite things? A soft bed (his “fortress”), Greenies, and his beloved evening wagon rides where he can take in all the sights and smells like the distinguished gentleman he is. Every now and then, he’ll bless you with the cutest little zoomies—complete with his signature “woo woo”—and it’s adorable beyond words. Gilbert is housebroken, sleeps well through the night, and is perfectly content hanging in his fortress while you’re out. He does best in a calm, quiet home where he can stick to a routine and feel safe. Once he trusts you, he’ll melt your heart. He loves to snuggle in his foster mom's lap while she works, and sometimes throws his head back into her body to give her a sappy look of love. Gilbert is looking for a home where he can be the king of the castle, without other dogs, cats, or young kids. He’s not leash-trained, so a fenced yard is a must, and he’ll need someone to carry him up and down any stairs like the royalty he is. He can be a bit “spicy” about guarding his bed, so he’ll thrive with someone who appreciates his boundaries and can provide gentle structure. He communicates through barks, which his foster mom is still trying to interpret, so a single-family home is likely a better fit for him than an apartment. He does have some age-related mobility needs (arthritis and luxating patellas), which are managed with medication. In return, you get a deeply lovable, endlessly entertaining little companion who will make you laugh daily. If you have a soft spot for seniors with big personalities, Gilbert might just be your guy.
