After a 3 day ICU stay, 2 blood transfusions, & almost 3 months of recovery & healing - Bernie man is FINALLY ready to find a home of his own! When I agreed to take him on for lifesaving care, completely sight unseen, I had no idea what to expect. He went from trapper right to the hospital where I actually didn’t meet him until I picked him up at discharge or even knew what he looked like until I saw a picture and he has exceeded every expectation I had. Bernie has turned out to be the sweetest mushy man. He loves affection, lets me pick him right up, and really will do anything for catnip. He’s acclimated well to the other cats and has even managed to befriend Earl (our most difficult and hard to impress hospice cat!) He loves the wand toy and will tolerate my annoying endless face kisses! Bernie’s road was a rough one. After a thorough work up when he was in the hospital, it was determined he was suffering from mycoplasma. Mycoplasma, when caught early, can generally be treated with a long course of doxycycline. But since his case was so advanced by the time he was trapped, his anemia was so severe that his RBC was literally ONE. We don’t know how he survived up until that point but he did and the donor blood gave him the boost he needed to slowly heal in the following months with the doxy & steroids. After everything he’s been through, he deserves a home of his own (as much as it will pain me to give him up after everything we had been through) I’d say he’s middle aged (maybe 5-6), he is neutered, UTD on vaccines, FIV/FeLv negative, & microchipped!
