She spent her life at a breeding farm, so everything about living in a home is brand new to her. And while she may not arrive as the “ready-made” family dog some people are looking for, what she will bring is something pretty special—the chance to watch a shy, gentle dog discover life, one step at a time. Dawn is a lovely girl with so much to give, but she’ll need the right person by her side. Someone patient. Someone understanding. Someone who sees the beauty in the small wins—like learning what a couch is, or realizing that kind hands bring comfort. Dogs like Dawn aren’t blank slates—they come with a story. What they need is someone willing to meet them where they are, without expectations, and gently guide them forward. If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in that journey, Dawn just might be your girl. She’s not perfect—but she’s real, she’s deserving, and she’s ready for her fresh start. FOSTER UPDATE: This is Dawn, isn’t she just the cutest little Maltese mix. Dawn is an 8 year-old breeder release from Alabama and joined us in foster care 2 days ago. We like to say her little face looks like she ate a bowl of spaghetti o’s, this is not unusual for breeder releases, and the red stains should go away after a few grooming sessions. We think it is her badge of courage for all of the challenges that can occur as a breeder. Everything about living in a home is new to Dawn and she is doing so well. She likes to follow me and the other dogs around the house. She is bright, curious, funny and the sweetest little girl. She does enjoy sitting on laps, gentle pets and brushing. During the day she sleeps nicely in her bed or snuggles in with one of the other dogs. Dawn is learning about using a leash, and house training. She is doing excellent walking on a leash, and she has had no accidents in her crate. She goes outside regularly and is learning to do her business outside. She really enjoys exploring outside. Going down the porch steps is a bit scary, but she does the last one on her own with a tiny hop. Going up the porch steps is no problem. Hope you consider adopting Dawn, she is very loving and would make a perfect companion either as a single dog, or if you have other dogs. Fostered in Oshkosh.
