Alex is a small, adult male Bernedoodle (most likely a poodle-mix), with a beautiful curly coat in white, cream, and black, and currently located at Dearborn County Friends of Animals Inc. He is house trained, has been neutered, and his vaccinations are up to date. Alex gets along well with cats and other dogs, though he prefers a quiet, single-person home where he can form a special bond. He does have some special needs relating to his preference for a single adopter and a calm environment.

About Alex

They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply? Meet Alex, a five-year-old little guy who is listed as a Bernedoodle, but it’s clear his mix is mostly poodle with no Bernese in sight! Alex has experienced a lot of upheaval, losing his first home when his family faced deportation and then being adopted into another home where things didn’t work out—this time due to his own quirks. Alex is not interested in having a big family; he truly wants to bond with just one special person. He can get possessive and protective, especially with women, and has bitten in the past when feeling overwhelmed or needing to guard his person, which led to his return to rescue. In his current foster home, where his foster mom is single and visitors are rare, Alex has been wonderful. He coexists peacefully with other dogs, though he doesn't play with them, and he runs alongside neighbor dogs along the fence for fun, always preferring to avoid physical contact. Cats don’t faze him—he just ignores them—and he’s behaved perfectly at the vet and groomer, charming everyone he meets in those settings. These observations suggest Alex thrives in a calm home with an introverted adopter who lives alone and has very few guests. This boy is seeking the right situation: a single person who can provide lots of companionship, structure, and who doesn’t mind having a loyal sidekick to bring along for car rides and errands. Alex will feel safest when he can just relax and not be in charge of anyone but himself and his person. If you’re an introvert in need of an unwavering companion who appreciates one-on-one affection and has a bit of canine character, Alex may be your perfect match. His adoption fee is $200. His bad days are there, but his sweet, charming side will win you over. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!

Questions about Alex

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Bernedoodles, like other poodle mixes, are best suited for homes that can offer plenty of companionship and consistent routines. They thrive in environments where their social and intelligent nature is appreciated, whether that's a house or an apartment with frequent interaction.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Bernedoodles are adaptable and can do well in smaller yards or even apartments, as long as they get regular walks and playtime. A home with a secure yard is great for letting out their energy, but they primarily need daily exercise with their person.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Most Bernedoodles are friendly and can make good family pets, often doing well with children when socialized early. However, their temperament can vary, so introductions should always be managed thoughtfully.
