About Bear
Bear is a one-eyed Shih Tzu with a big heart—literally and figuratively—who’s hoping to spend his golden years with someone gentle and understanding. At about 10 years old, Bear weighs in at 20lbs and sports a fluffy, long black and cream coat. He’s crate trained if you show him the way, and he’ll let you pick him up—especially when it’s time for a good rubdown or a spot on the couch, as long as you’re the one to lift him. Bear is pee pad trained but sometimes has accidents. While he acts tough, he’s actually sensitive and thrives with a soft touch. He likes knowing where you are and wants to stay close by, isn’t interested in toys, and gets the hang of a doggie door. Bear takes medication for an enlarged heart and prefers it crushed and mixed into his food. He’s not a fan of having his face or eyes bothered, and while he currently lives with other dogs, he often growls at them and would be happiest as the solo dog. He does get along with cats, but because of his sensitivity, a child-free home is recommended. A secure, fenced yard is ideal for him to wander with peace of mind. Questions about Bear
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Shih Tzus like Bear are typically happiest in calm, indoor environments with gentle routines. Their small size and sensitive nature suit them well to apartments or houses where they can be close to their humans.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Bear will appreciate a secure, fenced yard for safe explorations, but Shih Tzus do not need a large yard. Regular short walks and indoor play are usually enough for their activity needs.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Shih Tzus can be great with older, dog-savvy kids, but Bear's sensitivity means he'd be better in an adult-only home without children.
