Mia is a 3-year-old, ~40 lb girl who is safe now after a heartbreaking start to life. She came into the shelter with a litter of puppies and her mouth taped shut. While her puppies were quickly adopted, Mia was left behind—scared, shut down, and eventually placed on the euthanasia list. Today, Mia is safe and making steady progress. She is still timid with new people and will need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. Once she feels safe, Mia is gentle, sweet, and quietly affectionate. Mia does best in a calm, quiet home where she can settle in at her own pace. A home with a yard would be ideal. She walks nicely on leash and already knows commands like sit and lay down. She is great with other dogs and cats and would likely benefit from a confident dog companion to help her continue building confidence. Mia has come a long way and has so much potential.
