Portland’s rainy winters suit Labrador Retrievers perfectly. Their water-resistant double coat handles Pacific Northwest drizzle with ease. Forest Park’s 80+ miles of trails are great for wet-weather exercise.

Mar – May

Labs shed heavily in Portland’s spring. Brush daily. The Columbia River Gorge and Sauvie Island offer excellent exercise as the rain tapers off and temperatures warm for Labrador Retrievers.

Summer

55°F to 82°F

Jun – Aug

Portland’s dry summers are wonderful for Labs, but occasional heat waves in August can spike to dangerous levels. Watch for toxic algae in the Willamette River. Labs love swimming at Sauvie Island’s beaches.

Fall

Sep – Nov

Rain returns in Portland’s fall, which doesn’t bother Labrador Retrievers at all. Forest Park and the Springwater Corridor Trail offer beautiful autumn exercise. Labs’ coats thicken for the wet season.
