About Mia
Make their next chapter their best one yet. Mia is a 4-year-old, 35 lb red heeler whose heart is somehow even bigger than her story. After an unimaginable period of neglect where she lost the use of her back legs, Mia’s life turned around with loving care and medical treatment. Now, she’s able to walk on her own, with just a few wobbles when tired, and brings hope and joy into every room she enters. Despite her challenges, Mia never stopped loving people, and she continues to improve every day. Mia is not your typical high-energy heeler. She prefers napping in the sun and curling up beside her humans, soaking in affection, rather than needing long walks or constant excitement. She will need a loving home that’s patient and mindful of her physical needs: help with stairs or getting into cars, occasional support for her paws on rough ground, and continued vet care for her bladder. She’s made huge progress but may still need help with accidents at times. While Mia’s exact injury is still a mystery, what’s undeniable is her progress and her will to love deeply. She thrives in lower-energy homes and would do best without cats due to her heeler instincts, but she’s lived with kids—though supervision is encouraged, as she can be a little unsteady. Apartment living isn’t ideal, as the hustle and bustle gets her excited and vocal. Mia is very food motivated, may bark at passersby, and has a manageable tendency for mild food guarding, which is easily resolved with separate meals in her crate where she also sleeps very well. Described as pure love by everyone who meets her, Mia deeply bonds with her people and is looking for a family willing to offer her the calm, committed life she deserves. She is eligible for a foster-to-adopt program so you can make sure it’s a perfect match. She’s ready for her good chapter—are you ready to write it together? Think you are the one?
