The rainy season with most of the annual 22 inches falling in winter. Trails can be muddy after storms. Between rains, the green hillsides are beautiful for hiking with pets.

Wildflowers bloom on the hillsides and trails. Bishop Peak and Madonna Mountain are gorgeous. The weather is ideal for long hikes. Montana de Oro is spectacular with coastal wildflowers.

Morning fog gives way to warm, dry afternoons. The inland valleys can be hotter than the immediate coast. The Bob Jones Trail to Avila Beach is a perfect pet-friendly walk.

Fall

Sep – Nov

September and October are often the warmest and driest months. The hills turn golden brown. Montana de Oro and Bishop Peak are excellent for hiking as the air clears and temperatures moderate.
