About Pumba
Meet Pumba! This athletic, extra-large young dog has a cautious energy to him and needs an experienced handler who understands working breeds. He’s protective and independent, traits that can shine in the right context, but he’s still learning about the world and will need patient, positive guidance to build up confidence. Smart and eager to learn, Pumba will thrive with someone willing to commit time to training and good structure at home. His ideal household is calm, experienced, and understands the challenges and rewards of nurturing a shy, working breed dog. Pumba had minimal socialization with other dogs early on, so slow introductions are essential. He currently does well with a large male Coonhound foster sibling, showing that with care, he can build dog friendships. He’s also safe around goats and horses, but his behavior with cats and chickens has not been tested. Pumba isn’t a fit for families with children and would do best as an only pet or with thoughtfully introduced larger dogs. If you’re up for a challenge and seeking a truly rewarding relationship, Pumba could be the partner you’ve been looking for. With consistent leadership, he offers the promise of becoming a remarkable companion. Pumba is foster-based in Brainerd, MN. Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!
