I'm Skyler-a 20-pound Labrador Retriever mix with a gentle heart and a soft, sweet nature. I really do love people, even if I'm not always sure how to show it at first. When you're sitting quietly, I might wag my tail a little and work up the courage to come closer, especially once I start to feel safe. As I get to know you, I'll lean into your touch and enjoy the affection I've been hoping for, growing a bit more confident each time we spend together. I may seem a little awkward at first, but it's only because I'm still figuring things out and learning how to trust. I can get pretty nervous if someone stands up or approaches me too quickly, so I do best when people give me space and let me come to them on my own terms. I'm not quite the bouncy, carefree puppy you might expect-I'm more of a work-in-progress who needs patience, understanding, and lots of love to truly shine. Loud environments and fast-moving little ones can overwhelm me, so I'd be happiest in a calm home with people who respect my boundaries. With time, gentle guidance, and some confidence-building training, I know I can blossom into a loyal, well-mannered companion. I promise I'm worth the wait-I just need someone willing to help me feel safe enough to become the dog I'm meant to be. My adoption fee of $375+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society. All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.
