Labs shed their winter undercoat as Houston warms up. Brush frequently to manage shedding. Mosquitoes emerge early, so keep heartworm prevention current since Labs spend lots of time outdoors.

Summer

75°F to 95°F

Jun – Aug

Houston’s extreme heat and humidity are dangerous for active Labrador Retrievers who don’t self-regulate during exercise. Walk only before 7 AM or after 8 PM. Provide wading pools to help Labs cool off at home.

Fall

Sep – Nov

September is still hot in Houston, but by October Labrador Retrievers can enjoy Danny Jackson Dog Park and Terry Hershey Park trails comfortably. Their coat begins thickening, though Houston’s mild winters require less bulk.
