About Petunia

Written: 4/22/2026 Meet Petunia! Petunia was picked up as a stray in southern VA and is estimated at 10 weeks old. She weighs 14 lbs, although she was a pretty chunky puppy when she came to us. We suspect she is some sort of bully/hound mix. Her behaviors very much mirror that of a hound, and she loves to explore with her nose to the ground and tail straight up in the air! She is confident and doesn't seem scared of anything! She is great at self-entertaining, and would do great as an only dog or with another playful playmate. She does great with the older dogs in her foster home and reads social cues well when they don't want to play. She is also great with cats! She does not chase, and will play with dog-savvy cats if they allow it. She loves all toys - literally. Whether it squeaks, crinkles, is soft or hard - she loves them all! She rides perfect in the car and does not get carsick, and seems to hold her bladder and bowels for longer than other puppies her age. She is in her puppy teething stage, so might not be the best fit for a home with young kids! She is a little shadow and loves to follow you around, and comes immediately when you call her! She is being fostered in Richmond, VA and is up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, has been dewormed, and is on monthly preventatives. Her adoption fee is $375 and covers the cost of age-appropriate core vaccinations, microchip, and required spay when age-appropriate. We require that all adopters, regardless of the dog’s age, are committed to ongoing training and socialization as part of responsible ownership. To apply to adopt Petunia, visit www.beaglesandbentleys.org/adopt. Spay/Neuter Disclosure: Spay/Neuter will be scheduled when age-appropriate and is covered in the adoption fee. We require adopters to be within a reasonable distance of Richmond or Virginia Beach in order to complete spay/neuter with our approved clinics. Note: Sending a Petfinder inquiry is not submitting an application. We require a completed adoption application to move forward with adoption. Beagles and Bentleys has an across-the-board evaluative process that we apply to every application we review that prioritizes our animals in need. We conduct a vet reference check (all resident dogs must be altered/up to date on dhpp/rabies and monthly preventatives, and cats must be altered and up to date on rabies) and a virtual home visit call where we discuss the adoption process and see your home.
