Hi... I'm Boomer — a big, affectionate German Shepherd boy looking for the right kind of home where I can truly shine. I'm happiest living a quieter life in a rural or semi-rural environment. Busy, unpredictable places with lots of dogs and constant activity (like city living) aren't really my style. What I love most is space — a big yard or property where I can go outside, take in the world, and calmly observe my surroundings. That's where I feel safe and confident, and it's where I've absolutely thrived. Right now I live on a large property with plenty of animals and low environmental stress, and I've done wonderfully here. I'm great with dogs of all sizes — truly a social guy. I'm best friends with the resident male GSD, get along beautifully with the cattle dogs on the property, and I've welcomed visiting dogs without any trouble. Even the cat adores me and we weave around each other peacefully. Goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and even loose birds? No problem. I'm curious, but respectful, and I don't show much prey drive. When my foster takes me out on walks or to meet friends, I pass dogs calmly and handle new environments nicely. I walk well on leash, enjoy structured outings, and I'm a fantastic car rider — just say the word and I'll hop right in. I'm a thoughtful, fair-minded dog. I tend to give back exactly what I receive. When people communicate clearly and treat me calmly and respectfully, I respond with cooperation, emotional stability, and a whole lot of loyalty. I learn quickly with positive reinforcement, take treats gently, and genuinely enjoy working with my person. I love people and have interacted positively with everyone I've met. Delivery drivers, visitors, walkers, cyclists — none of it bothers me. I'm confident, neutral, and environmentally steady when life is predictable and fair. I do have one small sensitivity: if someone suddenly grabs my collar roughly, I may stiffen or put my mouth on an arm to say, “Hey, please slow down.” It's communication, not aggression. When handled calmly and given a moment to process, I cooperate beautifully, and I've already been making great progress with training around this. I just appreciate thoughtful handling and clear expectations. Health-wise, my DNA says I'm 100% German Shepherd, and I carry one marker for degenerative myelopathy (DM). Dogs typically need two markers to develop the disease, so I'm considered a carrier, but my mobility is being monitored just to be safe. I move great — I run, play, zoom up and down stairs, and keep up just fine. Supplements have even improved some mild instability that was noticed earlier. I'm happiest with regular activity like walks and outdoor adventures without extreme, high-impact exercise. What I'm really looking for is a gentle home — ideally with another well-mannered dog or two and people who love affectionate, big shepherd boys. I bond deeply with my family and want to be part of daily life, whether that's walks, hanging out in the yard, or relaxing together after a good day outdoors. I'm emotionally steady, socially appropriate, highly trainable, and deeply loving. I've integrated beautifully into my foster home, and everyone here says I'm a joy to live with. If you're looking for a loyal companion, a calm observer of life, and a big sweet soul who will meet you with trust and devotion... I might just be your guy. You like this dog...now what?
