Tucson winters are mild and sunny, making them the best season for desert trail hikes with your dog. Saguaro National Park and Sabino Canyon are ideal for pet-friendly outings. Nighttime temperatures can dip into the upper 30s, so bring a layer for early morning walks.

Mar – May

Spring brings wildflower blooms in the desert and warming temperatures. March and April are excellent for hiking before summer heat arrives. By May, temperatures climb toward 90°F, so start shifting outdoor activities to cooler hours.

Summer

Jun – Aug

Summers are dangerously hot with temperatures exceeding 100°F. Walk pets only in early morning or after sunset and always test pavement temperature. Monsoon storms from July through September bring sudden downpours and flash flood risks in washes and arroyos.

Fall

Sep – Nov

September remains hot, but by October the desert cools into comfortable hiking weather. Monsoon season tapers off and clear skies return. Late fall is excellent for exploring Tucson Mountain Park and the many desert trails with your pet.
