Ollie is a 2-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 7 lbs, with a sweet but timid personality. He is very shy and still learning to feel comfortable in new environments and around people. Ollie does best when he is around other canine friends, who help him feel more secure and confident-because of this, he requires another confident dog in the home. He can be a bit uncomfortable with handling and will need a calm, patient adopter who is willing to go at his own pace and continue working with him through positive reinforcement and trust-building. With time and consistency, Ollie has the potential to blossom in a loving home. Ollie gets along well with other dogs in group settings and truly benefits from their companionship. He also loves playing with toys or relaxing peacefully in his bed when he feels safe and settled. A meet and greet at the shelter is required to ensure Ollie is the right fit for his future home and family. A secure, fenced-in yard is preferred to give him a safe space to explore and build confidence at his own pace. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly.
