Colt is a tricolor (brown, black, and white) Akita with a medium coat, currently living in Toms River, NJ. He is an unneutered adult male and is not yet house trained. With his extra-large size and youthful energy, Colt needs a home familiar with powerful breeds and plenty of physical activity.

About Colt

Colt is a very large, young Akita—he’s all strength and spirit, clocking in at about 1.5 to 2 years old. He landed at Big East Akita Rescue via the Trenton NJ animal shelter, having been picked up as a stray. Since arriving, Colt has made it clear that people are his thing. He craves human attention, showing more interest in companionship and treats than in sharing with other animals. This big guy really does need to be the only pet in the home. On leash, Colt is strong and excitable. He’s not stubborn for the sake of it—he just has a ton of puppy energy and needs firm guidance. He knows some basic commands, so there’s a good foundation to build from. If you’ve got a big, secure yard where Colt can let loose, he’ll thrive—he loves toys and burning off steam outside. Colt does best with experienced owners who can match his strength and keep working on his training. Ready for an adventure with a goofy, loyal friend? Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Colt

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Colt, as an Akita, does best in homes with ample indoor space and preferably a secure, fenced yard. They are not suited for apartment living due to their size and energy.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Akitas like Colt ideally need a large, securely fenced yard to play, exercise, and explore. Small yards or limited outdoor space won’t be enough for his activity needs.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Akitas can be good with children in the household when well socialized, but because of their strength and boisterousness like Colt, supervision and guidance are essential, especially with young kids.
