Hi, I'm Mia! You might recognize me by my quirky expressions — or the occasional tongue that decides to make a surprise appearance. I can't help it, it's just part of my charm. 😄 I came to ARF back in March 2025 along with three other cats after living in a garage colony, and like all of us, I needed some time to find my footing in this new world. People were unfamiliar and a little unsettling at first, but I've grown so much more confident since those early days. I'm naturally curious and observant — I like to know exactly what's going on in a room at all times, and I am very good at keeping tabs on things. Consider me the quiet supervisor. Two of the cats I arrived with — Jake and Charlie — have since found their forever homes, which is just wonderful for them. That leaves me and my girl Berta, and honestly, she's good company. We're not inseparable, but there's a real comfort and quiet trust that's grown between us over time. We'd love to find a home together if the right match comes along, but we're also both the kind of girls who could do beautifully alongside other friendly, calm, gentle cats — male or female — as long as the home is peaceful and the pace is relaxed. I do have a strong personality — I know what I like, I know what I don't, and I'm not shy about making that known. I can hold my own with other cats and have a confident presence, but underneath that I'm a deeply feeling cat who just needs the right environment to truly open up. I'll sometimes take squeeze-up treats directly from a finger, and when I'm in the mood for play, a string toy will bring out my more playful, expressive side. Those moments are worth waiting for, trust me. I'm still actively building trust with humans and I do best with someone who understands feline communication and knows how to read a cat's cues. I set the pace — but with patience and respect, that pace has a way of picking up more than you might expect. I do have one recent update worth sharing: I just had a dental cleaning, and it turned out my teeth were quite infected, so the vet went ahead and removed all of them. I know, I know — but honestly? I feel so much better. I'm back to eating my regular wet and dry food without any issues whatsoever, and I am one happy, comfortable girl. Oh, and here's a little bonus for my future adopter: you will never have to worry about booking me a dental appointment again. Ever. You're welcome. 😄 What I'm looking for is a calm, understanding home where boundaries are respected and small moments of connection are treasured. If you're someone who finds joy in earning a cautious cat's trust, I will make that journey so worthwhile. Berta and I have been through a lot together, and we'd love to face this next chapter together too. Could that be with you? 🐾💕 Some very important things you should know when applying: Adoption fees for young adult and adult cats are $250 ($265 if microchipped). What our adoption fees include: Adult cats have received a wellness exam, fecal exams to test for intestinal parasites, treated for any known/existing conditions to bring them back to health, SNAP tested for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), and Heartworm. They have also received flea/tick preventative, have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on both their distemper and rabies vaccinations. For all applicants: Our volunteers do our very best to match an animal’s needs with that of the family’s needs and desires. In an effort to be transparent, please note that we just don’t know how our individual animals, many who have been through prior stress or trauma before arriving at our shelter, will react around young children who are still learning what it means to respect an animals’ boundaries. We are happy to have a beneficial discussion about safety between children and pets. Applicants and their family members arriving for meet and greets will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon arrival and prior to meeting our animals. Please also expect to have at least 2 visits as part of the adoption process at our shelter- one for the initial meet and greet, and one for the adoption appointment if a match is made. It’s important to us that we are properly matching animals to adopters, preparing our adopters for their special adoption day, and for a lifetime of happy pet ownership with your adopted pet. Please double check your application for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting it to us. Please be as thorough as possible when answering application questions as the more you elaborate, the more information we have to consider, the more likely we are to have a full picture of the care, support, and love our cats/kittens will receive for their adopted lifetime and your particular application will be at the top of our mind when placing cats/kittens in their chosen forever homes. You can complete an application at ARFCT.org and submit it to our email at arfct.adoptions@gmail.com for consideration. Thank you!
