About Sally

Meet Sally, the Australian Cattle dog! Sally came into the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. Sally was originally rescued from a situation in Louisiana as a little puppy. She was found in a kennel outside with her littermates and mom, with no one to care for her. Someone took her in and raised her. She is really smart and knows “sit”, “stay”, “speak” and even “take” (when she picks up an item and brings it to her bed). She would love to continue working her brain in her adoptive home with her next family through positive reinforcement training. Sally has lived with other dogs (small and large) and has done well. She also has eben around dog-savvy felines and, although she would occasionally chase them in play, she never caused injury. She was even known to be motherly to some orphan kittens who tried to nurse on her. Sally is energetic and would thrive in an active house hold that will enrich her life through daily physical and mental stimulation. Sally is available for pre-adoption at this time. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
