Around 7 years old and 50 pounds, Pollie is the kind of dog who brings a calm and comforting presence wherever she goes. She has an easygoing nature and a heart full of love to give. Pollie does well with other dogs and happily coexists with them. She hasn’t shown much interest in playing, preferring instead to simply blend right in and enjoy the company around her. Her cat compatibility is unknown at this time. She is potty trained with no accidents and can comfortably hold it for long periods. Pollie is also crate trained, though she may bark or howl a bit when first crated before eventually settling down. Because of this, her future home should not have shared walls such as apartments or townhomes. Pollie is wonderful with people and, based on her gentle demeanor, would likely do well with respectful children. She is low to medium energy, enjoying walks, companionship, and spending time with her humans. She is also a big fan of food and looks forward to her twice-daily meals. Pollie’s story is one of resilience. She was found lying on the side of the road in Southern Illinois with an injury that left her unable to move until a kind Good Samaritan found her and brought her to animal control. Thankfully, she has since been checked over and is doing well. Pollie did test positive for heartworm and has started treatment. She will need to remain calm during recovery for the next several months, which should be easy for this naturally mellow girl. Pollie has been through a lot and deserves a soft place to land with a family who will love her the way she deserves.
