Doug is a 5-year-old Shepherd/Retriever mix who wandered into the care of HSSM on January 6, 2026 after being picked up as a stray. He had no collar or tags, but he was microchipped, giving us hope that someone out there was missing him. Sadly, despite multiple attempts, no one came forward—and now Doug is ready to turn the page and start a brand-new chapter with a loving fur-ever family. Weighing in at 47 pounds, Doug is a lovable, lanky bundle of goofy charm with a personality as big as his heart. This playful boy lives for yard time—especially if tennis balls are involved—and he’s happiest when he’s romping around, soaking up the sunshine, and showing off his signature silliness. Doug is also quite the chatterbox and has a lot to say, happily narrating his day and keeping you entertained with his very vocal commentary. Doug walks well on a leash, making afternoon strolls and outdoor adventures easy and fun. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and ready to go home. Doug has tested heartworm positive, but with the proper treatment he can live out the rest of his days happy and healthy. If you’re looking for a dog who’s equal parts playful, talkative, and downright adorable, Doug might just be your perfect match. Doug's $250 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip AND transport fee to a location near you. We currently have transportation to CT, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, GA, and TN.
