Dog’s Name: Bubbles (aka Ballerina Bubbles) Age / Size: 3-4, very small, only about 7lbs! Foster Note Bubbles is such a brave girl - she has been through a lot of change over the past week and is still adjusting to her new life, but she so clearly wants to be loved by everyone she meets. Even though she is nervous in new situations and meeting new friends, she keeps coming out of her shell and follows her curiosity. It is obvious that, in time, she is absolutely going to blossom into such a fun, playful pup. She LOVES stuffed toys and watching her play with them is adorable. Also, she's just plain gorgeous with ballerina legs for days! Personality Snapshot Sweet, playful, loving, Medium energy More people‑oriented or independent?: People-oriented, though she needs a little time to warm up to new friends How do they handle new situations?: She does best meeting new people and animal friends indoors. However, her confidence is growing day by day, and she is clearly very curious and wants to explore more. She's adjusting to the noise of NYC. Social & Home Life How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)?: Bubbles is shy around new human friends at first, but warms up quickly. She prefers to come to them first, and doesn't enjoy being pet without permission. Because of this, she would probably prefer a home without young children. How are they with other dogs?: Bubbles doesn't currently seem to have much interest in other dogs. She will sniff if they come to greet her, but she does not initiate. Cats or other animals (if known)?: Fine, ignores them Behavior when left alone or when guests visit: Bubbles is growing more and more confident every day when left alone. She is crated when she is home alone, and does well in her crate. When guests visit she is initially shy, but quickly warms up when she is given the time and space to do so on her own terms. Daily Life Typical day with you: Bubbles wakes up when I do in the morning and immediately heads to the pee pad. I fill her food bowl for the day, as she is very much a grazer. We spend some time sitting outside to get used to the sights and sounds of Brooklyn. Then we head inside and she snoozes on the couch or in her crate. She enjoys sitting on the back of the couch and looking out the window. In the afternoon and evening we have some play time, and practice sitting outside again. Bubbles snoozes some more, and then we have a big play session before heading to bed for the night. Exercise needs: Low to moderate Favorite activities or toys: Bubbles LOVES any soft plush toy and rotates through a large selection during the day. She likes to pile all of them in different parts of the home. She occasionally wants to play fetch or tug of war, but generally likes to play by herself, pouncing on toys and running around with them (it is VERY adorable!). Growth Areas Anything they’re still working on? Bubbles is still working on her overall confidence in new situations. She clearly loves people, but needs time to warm up to a new face. What helps them succeed? Bubbles needs a person or family who is gentle and willing to take things slow and on her terms. She will blossom in an environment where she is given time to get comfortable and adjust to her new surroundings and learn. Ideal Home Only dog / With dog / Either: Having another dog around would likely help Bubbles build her confidence by having another pup show her the ropes, but she is primarily interested in human love and would be great as a solo dog as well. Good fit for apartment living? Overall yes, though as she adjusts to the big city and builds her leash skills it would be great if she has an enclosed yard to play in. She is not a big barker, but will bark if someone knocks at the door or rings the bell. Other apartment noises don't seem to faze her. Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): Bubbles definitely would prefer a calmer household. What kind of adopter would be the best match? Bubbles loves being around her person, so someone who could be home during the day sometimes would be the best match. But most importantly, Bubbles will thrive in a home with an adopter or family that has the patience and gentleness to let her be herself and come out of her shell.
