AvailableAbout Ikota
This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Ikota's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Ikota, an 11-week-old (4/15) Basenji/Mountain Cur mix, weighing approx. 20-25 pounds (as of 4/15/26). This beauty was found as a stray in Tennessee. We know! It's so hard to believe! But it won't be long before she finds a cozy New England home of her own! UPDATE: She does not howl like a Basenji, but she does not have a normal bark either. And her foster mom says she talks to her. She is a spunky little girl and has her foster older brothers wrapped around her paw. Ikota is truly the cutest little girl. She's so adorable, she's sure to win first place in every dog beauty pageant there is, so sign her up now! When she's not stealing hearts with her friendly demeanor, Ikota loves to play with her senior foster brother’s toys (to his dismay), but he is tolerant of her behavior because Ikota is so sweet and the perfect little sister. Ikota enjoys cuddling up when she's relaxing and is the perfect couch companion for when you're watching documentaries on Netflix instead of doing housework. The dishes can wait. Cuddling can't. She likes to have a security blanket or person or dog and would thrive in a loving home where she can have a sibling. She hasn't met cats yet nor does she have experience with children, but we believe Ikota would be amazing with kiddos because of her friendly and playful attitude! Feline friends are still up for debate, but Ikota hopes to charm them too! Ikota is also a smarty pants and is learning proper doggie manners with humans and with other dogs. Soon, she'll be teaching a class on crates, leashes, and potty training 'cause she's mastered all three! With loving direction from her people, Ikota is going to be a wonderful, loving, and loyal companion. Get ready for loads of fun and love! Bring this sweetie home now! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
