About Teddy

TEDDY is a GRAY DILUTE TABBY EXOTIC SHORTHAIR with green eyes. He is 4 years old, neutered, front-paw declawed, up to date on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative, and microchipped. This cute chap weighs a little over 10 lbs. Teddy came into rescue when his previous owner passed away. He had a short stint with the deceased owner’s relatives, but an attack by one of their dogs made it clear that this was not the right home for him. Understandably, it took him a good while to settle into foster care. Teddy’s foster mom enjoys spending time with this sweet boy. What’s not to love about a squishy face with big eyes that look trustingly up to a person while happily enjoying some soft head rubs? While he was initially reserved, he now saunters over as soon as he sees his foster mom and then he flops over. However, an exposed belly in Teddy’s case is NOT an invitation for belly rubs. It will “reward” the unsuspecting victim with a nip from his sharp little teeth! Teddy enjoys being petted around his head, but his foster mom has noticed that Teddy has an area on his back that he doesn’t care to have brushed or touched. When that happens, he can become quite spicy and will express his displeasure by trying to nip, so you want to learn his cues. We see this more often in cats that have been declawed and want to make sure his future family is made aware of this. Because they have lost their primary defense mechanism, declawed cats often resort to biting to express fear, pain, or dissatisfaction. We certainly cannot blame them for this, since they didn’t ask to have their last bone of each toe amputated. For the most part, Teddy seems to be a low-energy chap who is content sitting on the cat tree or hanging out on the couch, but he does enjoy a couple of play sessions with his foster mom when she swirls around a mink wand toy (which will be sent home with him). He also enjoys batting around spring toys, and occasionally he will wrestle with a catnip toy. When his foster mom is in close vicinity, Teddy likes to be close by, though not on her lap. If he ever will become a lap cat is anyone’s guess, but we were told that he did like to sleep at the foot of his previous owner’s bed. Teddy will do best in a quieter environment with less hustle and bustle. He will need some time to adjust and will need someone who is familiar with and tolerant of the different vocalizations and body language of a cat. His ideal home is with someone who enjoys the natural beauty and grace that a cat possesses, and being okay with a less needy cat. Because of the negative encounter with the dog and the fact that he is declawed, which leaves him somewhat defenseless, we feel he will do better in a home that doesn’t have any dogs. He may be okay with a laid-back cat that would leave him alone, but it will require proper and slow introductions. No young children for him please since they may not understand his cues. Teddy needed a dental, which our organization took care of. He eats both dry and a bit of wet food and is using his litter box perfectly. ADOPTION FEE $275. FOSTERED IN MEQUON, WI.
