About Lexi

Lexi is currently in a foster home! Her foster provided this info about her: Lexi, a 5 year old female, was found in an alley when she was very young, has been spayed & declawed. According to notes from the previous vet Lexi also has a broken paw, however, it does not affect the way she gets around. Lexi was surrendered along with two other cats after one of their owners passed away. As with most animals, the change of being removed from her original home to the shelter has been stressful. Fortunately, fostering is making a positive difference as Lexi awaits her furever home. Due to the change from her original home Lexi was showing signs of breaking down by not eating properly and losing weight in the shelter. During first two weeks of fostering she constantly hid behind or under a chair slowly adapting to the changes. To be sure she gained weight I would give Lexi her meals where she was hiding. Accommodating her needs worked to start her eating on a regular basis, feeling safe and venturing further into the foster room. Lexi has gained weight and now has a wonderful appetite. When Lexi hears my voice she waits at the door happily meowing with thankfulness as her food is now placed out in the open. Once she eats, her favorite way to spend time is in my lap. By the third week, Lexi was feeling so much better about her surroundings and now no longer hiding except when someone besides myself enters the bedroom. She is always on alert for strange noises and will run to her hiding spot if she feels threatened. So far, Lexi prefers to stay in her bedroom where she now easily wanders about feeling safe, takes naps in various spots and looks out the window. Lexi’s has an interesting face that may look somewhat confused or sad but that is the farthest from the truth. Lexi is so full of appreciation for human love, care, lots of petting and lap time. Lexi has become the lap queen luxuriating in peaceful naps while purring away. I have been showing her videos for cats on my iPhone while in my lap which she watches with full concentration especially the live mice videos:) When it is time for me to remove Lexi from my lap she will meow wondering WHY???? As much as she enjoys petting and lap time, so far Lexi does not like to be picked up. In addition to lap time Lexi likes to lay by my legs and rub her face all over my shoes or slippers. Lexi loves to be petted around the face and down her back. Brushing gently is a highlight of her day while raising her bottom in the air purring with full contentment. From time to time Lexi will even allow a belly rub with my hand or brush. Lexi gives kitty kisses to show her appreciation with her little pink tongue that sticks out from time to time. During part of the time fostering Lexi, I also fostered another cat from Lexi’s previous home who is 10 years old and has been recently adopted by a wonderful cat dad. The other cat would groom Lexi from time to time but would also nip or bat Lexi with her paw causing Lexi to hiss and walk off. Lexi would need to be adopted into a quiet home, no dogs, no children, initially her own space and patient parent. Considering her experience with her other housemate cat, I’m not sure how Lexi would react to other cats. If there is another cat, hopefully it would be a very calm loving fur baby who will not mistreat Lexi. Lexi has consistantly used the litter boxes. When I had the two foster cats, I used two litter boxes which still works for Lexi since she sometimes goes into one, changes her mind then uses the other. A female’s prerogative:) Lexi and I are hoping she will adopted before my foster time is up. I know Lexi would be so much happier going directly into her furever home to continue her amazing progress. Her new furever parent/parents need to be patient and give her time to acclimate into a peaceful and loving furever home.
