Meet Pookie Pookie is a 3-year-old, 9 lb Pomeranian with a beautiful red/chestnut/orange coat and a heart just as warm as her coloring. This little lady joined us on 1/16/26 after being found as a stray and taken to our local shelter, and she’s been melting hearts ever since. Pookie may be small, but she has a big personality! She’s incredibly sweet, gentle, and affectionate, with a quiet, easygoing nature. While she can be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up quickly—especially if you come down to her level or offer a tasty treat. Once she trusts you, she’s all about cuddles, couch time, and being your little shadow. She loves her routines—especially her morning treat after going potty—and enjoys lounging in the sun, playing with squeaky toys, and chasing her ball outside. Pookie is happiest when she’s relaxing beside you on the couch or snuggled up in bed. Pookie does have some special medical needs. She has an inoperable deformity in one back leg and luxating patellas in the other, so she will need a home that can accommodate her mobility challenges. A home with minimal or no stairs and a secure fenced yard is ideal, as she enjoys exploring but needs supervision. She may require a wheelchair in the future, so her forever family should be prepared to support her as needed. She gets along well with other small dogs, though her mobility can limit playtime. She doesn’t mind their presence but is just as happy soaking up all the attention herself! Pookie is crate trained and currently working on potty training—she’s doing well but may still have occasional accidents, especially on rugs, so puppy pads could be helpful. She’s not a fan of rain, harnesses, or being carried, and she’ll retreat to her crate if she’s feeling overwhelmed. Pookie would do best in a calm home without young children, where she can feel safe, loved, and supported. She’s a special little girl looking for a special family who will cherish her for exactly who she is.
