About Billie

Hi, I’m Billie—a 3-year-old tortoiseshell girl with a very distinctive voice. I was named after Billie Holiday because of my unique little meow, and honestly, I think it suits me perfectly. I spent a few years outside in East English Village in Detroit. Kind neighbors looked after me, and I was TNR’d, but after a few Michigan winters I decided I was done with all that. In December 2025, I made it very clear that I was ready to trade in the outdoor life for a warm house and a soft bed. It took me a few weeks to settle in and figure out this whole “indoor cat” thing, but now? I’ve blossomed into a wonderful house cat. I absolutely adore being petted and will purr like crazy—sometimes just because you walked through the door. I’m still a chatty girl, and I love batting around spring toys and telling you all about my day. I do best in a quieter, slower-paced home. I can be a little shy when meeting new people, and it may take me a little time to trust you, but once I do, I am incredibly loving. I’m not the kind of girl who rushes into things—I prefer to take my time and make sure you’re one of the good ones. I likely wouldn’t do well with small children, and I’m not sure how I feel about dogs yet. I might be okay with another calm, respectful cat. Car rides are definitely not my favorite, though a little gabapentin helps me get through them. I’m currently taking a tiny bit of Miralax once a day for mild constipation—easy peasy. If you have a calm home, a gentle heart, and room for a sweet, soulful girl with a lot of love to give, I think we could make beautiful music together. Billie is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.
