About Phoebe
Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement-Kennel License #2617 Could she do well with kids? Yes, with children around 10 years old, on a kid-by-kid basis. Could she do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis. Has this dog lived with cats? No. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not "cat test" dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian's Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.] --- What volunteers have to say about this animal: Phoebe is a 10-month-old, Terrier mix with youthful energy, curiosity, and a whole lot of affection waiting to be shared. She's still figuring out how to move through the world - and who would thrive with guidance, patience, and plenty of love. Phoebe is eager for connection but isn't always sure how to ask for it yet. Indoors, she enjoyed exploring her surroundings but frequently circled back to her handler, clearly wanting reassurance and companionship. She allowed husbandry handling and, while she sometimes wandered off mid-process, she consistently returned when called - a wonderful sign of her emerging trust and responsiveness. What We've Learned About Phoebe: - Affection-seeking, people-oriented - Curious and exploratory, with a strong "check back in" instinct - Enjoys interactive play more than toys - Still learning leash manners and focus Phoebe showed typical puppy leash behavior, pulling as she tried to move forward, but with consistency and positive reinforcement, her leash skills should improve. She's smart, engaged, and clearly wants to do well; she just needs a little help learning how. Phoebe was cautious with new people at first but warmed up nicely. Around other dogs, she became overly excited, which led to mixed reactions - some dogs tolerated her enthusiasm, others chose to avoid it. Continued socialization and training will help her learn appropriate dog-to-dog manners. Phoebe's Ideal Home: - A family or individual ready for puppy energy and training - Consistent routines and positive reinforcement - Opportunities for mental stimulation and bonding - Someone who enjoys an affectionate shadow at their side Phoebe is still growing into herself, but the heart is already there. With a little structure and a lot of love, she's going to be a truly wonderful companion. --- Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Phoebe is a young, energetic dog seeking affection but unsure how to express her needs. With the deep snow on the property, we couldn't take her far for walks, and she displayed poor leash manners by pulling. Indoors, Phoebe was curious about exploring but frequently returned to my side. While she allowed husbandry handling, she would sometimes walk away during the process, although she did come back when called. Phoebe was stable around everyday objects and noises and enjoyed playing with me, but she showed little interest in toys. Although cautious with new people, she became overly excited around other dogs, provoking mixed reactions from them, ranging from avoidance to tolerance of her interacting with them.
