And you’d be right. I came from the same crowded shelter in Southern California… the one where so many of us were running out of time. It was loud, overwhelming… and a little scary. I didn’t know who to trust. So I stayed back. I watched from a distance… quietly hoping someone kind would notice me. Not the loudest dog. Not the boldest. Just… me. A little shy… but full of love I didn’t know how to give yet. Then something changed. I was given a chance. A chance to leave that place behind… and learn what it feels like to be safe. I’ll be honest with you… when we first meet, I might not run right up to you. I might take a step back… just to make sure everything is okay. But if you give me a little time… a little patience… you’ll see something really special. You’ll see my tail start to curl and wag. You’ll see my goofy little underbite peek through. You’ll see the happy, silly boy I truly am. Because once I trust you… oh, I LOVE with my whole heart. I’ll run, play, jump around, and make you laugh every single day. I’ll follow you just to be part of your world. I’ll soak up your attention like it’s the best thing I’ve ever known… because to me, it is. I love people. I love other dogs. I love life… now that I finally get to live it. I don’t need perfection. I just need someone who understands that sometimes… the best kind of love starts a little quietly.
