We met sweet Emory at Chicago Animal Care and Control, after he had been waiting there for over SIX weeks for an adopter or rescue. We couldn't believe it. For a dog that's not even a year old yet - 6 weeks is a long time! His previous owner surrendered him to CACC because his dog had puppies (which were Emory and his siblings), and they couldn't keep up with all of the dogs as they grew into adolescents... All our friends at CACC raved about how great Emory was! And the second we met him, we knew why. Emory is a playful young boy whose tail is always wagging and he was always giving kisses - even when he wasn't feeling well. Emory is a typical young pup learning about the world - he is curious, playful, and entertaining. He loves other dogs, and is a playgroup rockstar, as you can see in his videos. He has yet to meet a dog that isn't a friend! He enjoys going on walks and does very well on a leash, making him a great companion for walking outings. Emory is also the rare dog that we let have a giant Costco round bed in his kennel and stuffies! He is afforded that privilege because he doesn't tear things up, like some dogs we know.... You can tell he has lived in a house before, he really does have good manners. Emory was recently in a one-week foster home with a family and their dog, and his foster mom says, "Emory loves dogs and is good with Kix, but he still has some of that puppy energy and she has to put him in his place every so often! He is also mostly housebroken, and improved each day, once we were on a good schedule!" Emory has SOOO much love to give and has been waiting far too long for a home. Emory will fit well into many lifestyles due to his medium size and his wonderful temperament. When you first meet him, he may come in excited and jump up for the first couple of minutes but he is really not a hyper pup and very even-keeled. We recently placed Emory into a foster home with a couple with no other pets in the city, and they have done a great job of working with him so he can be the best boy we know he can be! His foster mom writes, "Emory just discovered that life outside a kennel is the greatest thing that has ever happened to him! He is an enrichment superstar who goes wild for snuffle mats, puzzle feeders, bully sticks, and his beloved snuffle ball, because this big-brained boy always needs a job to do. On walks he stays beautifully tuned in to his person, happily sniffing every inch of the neighborhood while already showing all the signs of a dream leash dog in the making. He loves every human he meets - and while he's still perfecting his hello etiquette, once he settles he is the most devoted, cuddly companion you've ever had. With other dogs he's thoughtful and cautious rather than reactive, and we have a feeling a few good canine friendships are all he needs to become a dog park regular. Smart doesn't begin to cover it - Emory picks up on everything and lives for learning, which makes training him less of a chore and more of a joy.
