Penny’s story is one of resilience, love, and second chances. Not long ago, she was a devoted momma dog caring for her puppies in a shelter. One by one, her babies found homes… but Penny was left behind. As her time ran out, Freedom Street Rescue stepped in just in time to give her the life she deserved. And Penny truly seems to know it. She’s about 4.5 years old, around 50 pounds, and appears to be a Terrier / Mountain Cur / Shepherd mix. Her eyes are unforgettable — one bright blue and the other a stunning mix of blue and brown — and her sweet face tells a story of everything she’s been through and overcome. Penny can be a little cautious at first, but once she feels safe, her personality really shines. She’s affectionate, loyal, and loves being near her people. Whether it’s going for a walk, hanging out at home, or just following you from room to room, she’s happiest being part of your everyday life. She walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and settles in beautifully once she knows she’s safe. Penny also has a playful side and really enjoys being around other dogs. She loves to engage and has a funny, endearing way of initiating play — she’ll gently tap other dogs with her paws like a “tag, you’re it” to get them going. She can be a little enthusiastic and vocal when she’s excited, but she is never aggressive and takes correction well. Because of her play style, Penny would do best with a confident, medium-to-large dog who can play and help set boundaries, or she would also be perfectly happy as the only dog soaking up all the attention. She may be a bit overwhelming for smaller or more timid dogs simply because she doesn’t always realize some dogs don't want to play! After everything she’s been through, Penny is ready for a home where she can fully relax, feel safe, and be loved the way she deserves.
