About Koko

Meet Koko! Koko is a 5-year-old, 47-pound gentle girl with a calm, loving presence and wonderful manners. Koko enjoys quietly exploring her surroundings and approaches her handlers with a soft, polite demeanor. She leans in for affection throughout the day and seems unfazed by activity happening around her, remaining relaxed and easygoing even in busy environments. On walks, Koko settles into a lovely, steady pace. She may pull mildly to moderately at first if she's interested in greeting someone, but she redirects easily and walks very nicely once she gets going. She has been nonreactive toward other dogs both in and out of the shelter environment and shows friendly interest when passing people and pups. Koko rides wonderfully in the car, happily hopping in on her own and relaxing comfortably in the backseat. She is very treat motivated and takes treats politely, though she can occasionally grab them a bit quickly in her excitement. She appears to know "sit," or is at least learning it quickly. Toys don't seem to capture Koko's attention as much as the simple joys in life-walks, cuddles, and time with her people. She stands calmly for a bath and even sits patiently to be dried afterward. At home, Koko settles in beautifully. She spends much of her time relaxing on the couch, occasionally coming over to ask for affection. Her energy level is low to medium, leaning more toward the relaxed side, making her a wonderful companion for a calm household. She is housetrained and consistently chooses to relieve herself outside, heading straight for the grass when given the opportunity. With her gentle personality, affection for people, and easygoing nature, Koko would make a lovely addition to a family-oriented home. She is the kind of dog who simply enjoys being near her people and sharing quiet, happy moments together. As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
