About Stoney
Meet Stoney—also known as “Stone Cold”—a resilient little guy with a big heart. At around 1-1.5 years old, this adorable mixed breed (we've heard Jack Russell, Poodle, Shih Tzu, and a little Pit Bull, but honestly...he's just 100% cute) is still learning that the world can be a happy place. And at his size, he's just right—not too big and not too small—the perfect in-between companion. Stoney came into rescue underweight at just 21 pounds, but he's already gained a few much-needed pounds in foster care and is well on his way to a healthy weight. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and even had a dental—so he's feeling better than ever. He's currently finishing up a short course of doxycycline for anaplasmosis. He isn't showing any signs of the illness, but we treat just to be safe. Although he was reported to have allergies and dandruff before, he hasn't shown any signs of that in his foster home, so we suspect it may have been related to his previous environment or diet, and also a good bath. We were told he gets car sick but he's been on lots of car rides and has been fine. This sweet boy absolutely thrives around other dogs. In fact, they're his biggest source of comfort and confidence. When he's unsure, he looks to his canine companions for guidance, and once he feels safe, his playful, happy personality shines. He would do best in a home with another friendly, playful dog to help him continue to build confidence. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and especially enjoys romping around with his tiny 8-pound foster sibling. Stoney is also cat-friendly and respectful around them. For kids, he would do best with older children who understand boundaries and can give him the space he needs to warm up at his own pace. It took him about a week in foster care to discover toys, but now he enjoys playing with stuffed toys and nylabones. He's food motivated, which makes training easier, and he's already making progress with house training—especially since being neutered. He's crate trained as well and will even go in on his own to relax. He eats in his crate because he really loves his food and wants to gobble it all up, so a slow feeder is a must. When left alone, Stoney may whine or bark a little at first, but he does settle down. He can be shy when meeting new people and didn't immediately warm up to his foster, but with the help of the resident dogs, he quickly came around and is now a happy, affectionate companion who enjoys both playtime and cuddling on the couch. Stoney came to us as a local surrender, and it's clear he's ready for a brighter future. He's looking for a patient, loving home with another dog to show him the ropes, a family who will continue building his confidence, and plenty of opportunities for fun and adventure. If you're ready to give a deserving pup the love and guidance he needs, Stoney might just be your perfect match.
