About Koda
They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Koda is an incredibly intelligent and loyal 8-year-old red heeler mix who is seeking a patient, experienced adopter ready to provide him with the understanding and stability he needs. Having recently transitioned out of his lifelong home due to difficulty adjusting to children, Koda has started to settle in foster care and is showing his true character—a thoughtful, engaged companion with a big heart. He thrives with routine and trust, and will excel in an adult-only home or one with older, respectful children (8+). Koda is potty trained and crate trained, and has a history of living peacefully with a small dog after slow, careful introductions. While he longs for a sense of belonging within a "pack," it is recommended he be an only dog or join a very experienced home able to manage introductions thoughtfully. Koda should not live with cats due to his prey drive. He can be reactive on leash and in the yard, exhibiting behaviors such as barking and lunging; therefore, his ideal adopter should be physically able and committed to ongoing training and leash work. True to his cattle dog and collie heritage, Koda is energetic, intelligent, and happiest when he has a job to do—simple yard time is not enough for him. To truly flourish, he will need daily exercise, consistent training, and plenty of mental enrichment. Koda isn’t a couch potato or lap dog, but he loves to be close, express affection in his own quiet ways, and enjoys having a sense of purpose. For someone experienced with working breeds and seeking a bright, active partner, Koda is ready to be a deeply rewarding companion. He's not for everyone, but for the right person, he could be your perfect match. As a fun fact, Koda's birthday is March 6, making him a Pisces—these pups are known for their deep loyalty and emotional sensitivity! Make their next chapter their best one yet.

Questions about Koda
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Cattle dog and collie mixes do best in active homes that can provide plenty of daily exercise and mental enrichment. They thrive in environments where they have space to move and opportunities to stay engaged and stimulated.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
This breed benefits greatly from a fenced yard and regular access to open spaces. However, they need more than just a backyard; consistent walks, play, and work-type activities are essential.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Cattle dog mixes can be suitable for families with older, respectful children, but are often not a good match for homes with very young kids due to their high drive and herding instincts.
