About Roxie

Roxie is a young female terrier mix in search of the perfect fun loving home! Roxie is about a year and a half old, and weighs about 15 lbs. She's a bit longer than she is tall, and has typical wire haired terrier hair. Roxie is an active fun loving girl. She loves her people, but she also loves squeakers in toys, going for long walks and chasing anything you are willing to throw. She definitely needs regular exercise, even if it's tossing her toys across the living room for her. She is happiest in your lap or leaning up against you, but she is also fun and playful and is up for a good time. Her foster has been working on manners, and she knows sit and down and thinks treats are a wonderful thing. She has learned to wait at the door, get a harness on without too much squiggling and to not bark at things that scare her. Roxie is a bit shy on greeting, but can usually be bought with kindness, treats and squeaker toys. She is not recommended for families with small children. Small children in particular seem to scare her. She should be fine with settling in with kids in the 10+ range who can give her a bit of space to settle in but might enjoy throwing toys for her once she does. She is largely housebroken but can get distracted when outside and forget to go. She will go to the back door if she needs to go. She loves birds and squirrels (hence distraction factor) and will need a securely fenced yard. Roxie would love people who are home with her most of the time. She is an active, fun loving girl, and being crated all day is not in her best interest. She does need to be crated when you are gone because she will find things to occupy herself while you are gone. She complains a bit in the crate but does fine when left for 2-3 hours. She has learned the benefits of stuffed bones and finds and that helps her keep busy in the crate. Roxie does fine with other dogs and settles in with playful dogs as well. She wouldn't mind a fun companion in her new home. She is currently fostered with cats, but they are quite tolerant of her when her terrier comes out and she thinks she just might chase them. So she needs pretty tolerant cats for new friends. She is fully vetted, spayed and ready for a new home!
