About Smurf
Smurf 6 years, 40 lbs Rescued in Texas 💛 Personality Snapshot Smurf is an instant heart-stealer. Such a sweet, loving, and relaxed dog. His face is to die for, with his big lower jaw and his big eyes, all he wants is some love (and treats ;). ● Energy level (Low / Moderate / High): low ● More people‑oriented or independent? People oriented! 🐕 Social & Home Life ●He has a palpable mellow energy, and is so patient and loving with everyone - people, dogs, little kids! I haven’t seen him around any cats. He is mostly just happy being near you and getting so love and pets, and then dozing/snoring by your side. I have seen zero sign of nervousness or aggressiveness in him - overall he is the most gentle and accepting dog ever!! 🎓 Training & Manners ● He is clearly trained - walks like a gentleman on a leash, knows basic commands like sit, stay, down, and shake. He is highly food motivated but not aggressive about food at all. He is crate trained and seems to enjoy the crate. He is also potty trained. 🌞 Daily Life ● Exercise needs: minimum ● Favorite activities or toys: loves chewy kong-style toys, especially when you hold the other end for him! 🏡 Ideal Home I think he would do well in a home with another dog and/or kids. He loves attention. Right before he came into foster he developed back leg weakness and was diagnosed with IVDD (unfortunately common for his breed). He is on steroids and rest, and already a few days in he is markedly improved. He is so motivated to be a good boy, and has started wagging his tail and walking better already. He loves when you get down on his level and he can give you hugs and kisses. He’s got this super cute quirk where if you give him a treat he will hold it on his lower lip or tongue and consider it, then flip it into his mouth. I think he would do well in most homes, even homes with people without much dog experience. My main concern for him is finding a home that will help keep him in good shape and protect against back injuries in the future – given his short stature and back issues I think a home without a lot of stairs is ideal. **Smurf previously tested positive for heartworm and was treated before he left Texas** INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
