About S'mores

S'mores came to Riverside Shelter as a stray, and when no one came for him, he became a Frosted Face on March 24th. At around 8 years old and 45 pounds, S'mores is the total package - sweet, easygoing, and a little bit silly! Spending time with a foster family helped us learn what he is like in a home setting. S'mores foster dad shares: "S'mores is an amazing dog who adapted quickly to our home. He has shown exceptional house manners with us. He slept peacefully in his crate the first night. By the second day, he earned unsupervised downstairs house access, and we left his crate open at night. By the end of his first week, we gave him full unsupervised house access. He sometimes likes to sleep in his crate, but it is not needed. His preferred indoor activities are napping, getting belly rubs, and keeping tabs on your whereabouts. S'mores is a smart and sensitive dog who likes to learn. He has learned the following commands: sit, wait, and let's go. He also sits and waits patiently for food until you tell him "go ahead." (See video.) He is house-trained and has had zero accidents. S'mores likes exercise, but he's not an athlete. A couple of long walks every day or a yard to explore should fulfill his exercise needs. He has run next to me on leash while I ride my bike and does great with that. This isn't necessary, but it is a good way to get him some quick exercise if you want to try it. When S'mores is in a new area (like when getting out of a car or walking around your neighborhood for the first time), he will pull strongly in all directions as he follows new scents and stimuli. This passes after he burns off some energy in about 10 minutes, and then he goes back to an excellent, loose leash walk. S'mores has shown no aggression to any dog. He seems especially friendly with small dogs and female dogs. He comes on strong with male dogs - not aggressive, but does not respect their space when meeting them. I suggest slow introductions with new dogs. S'mores is so full of life, love, and happiness. If you choose to adopt him, you are getting a great dog."
