About Picchu

Meet our little man, PICCHU! ***PLEASE NOTE: Picchu is currently in Puerto Rico and will fly to his forever home once adopted! Please note that we can easily ship in cabin with a person to many airports along the East Coast including JFK, EWR, BWI, DCA and many more! We know New Yorkers love a Dachshund so we listed him as possibly coming there though!** Picchu is ~12 lbs and estimated to be about 9 months old. Clearly, he’s a Dachshund mix! He’s got a long hot dog body and distinctive Doxie features! We absolutely love his ears! Picchu is a very sweet and gentle boy! He likes to be touched and petted and enjoys the company of anyone he’s met! He easily allows all handling. He does well with other dogs! From what we have observed, he isn’t the kind of dog to instigate play and won’t necessarily engage in it if another dog tries to play with him, but he is very neutral and nice to any other dog he’s met so far. He’s very respectful. He’s currently being fostered in a home with multiple dogs of varying ages in sizes and is fine with them all. He also gets along very well with his brother, Machu, who is also up for adoption with us. They are NOT bonded, however. Please see the video! On an energy scale, he has medium energy. Like a typical Dachshund, he may bark when he sees something that he wants to alert his humans about. He likes to play concierge! That being said, he has not exhibited any separation anxiety or barking related to being left alone which is great! So far, he has not been observed to resource guard in any manner. He is crate trained! In our care, he has proven that he is very good with house training. He is currently being boarded and always waits to do his business outside. He does not soil his crate. While he has not met young children in our care, we think he would be absolutely fine with them given his personality. He has not been cat tested with us. Picchu and Machu were found abandoned in a wire crate in a school parking lot. A trusted rescuer we work with who works as a teacher at the school couldn’t leave them there, of course, so took them home and we are helping them find the best homes! He is neutered, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccinations. Please feel free to email us with any questions about him! See below for application info. The best fit for the dog is our priority. Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment are the most important things in caring for a dog. In addition, we cannot guarantee breed of any dog, exact age or expected adult size of a puppy. Please note that even house-trained dogs will need help transitioning to an adopter's home and schedule. Thank you for understanding.
