He has a history of abuse with these via a “trainer”. He has been medicated with gabapentin and trazadone via vet notes for behavior. Hank has a bite history. Please read his full description. Weight: 48 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Yes. What kind of home would be best for me? We want to be completely honest when it comes to Hank, because finding the right home for him matters more than anything. Hank is not the right fit for every household—but in the right environment, he has the potential to be an incredibly loving and rewarding companion. Hank has bitten in the past, and because of this history he will not be placed in a home with children. He needs a calm, predictable, and permanently child-free household where routines are steady and expectations are clear. Hank is a young dog who still needs guidance and structure as he continues learning how to navigate life as a family pet. Despite his past, Hank has done wonderfully during his time with us. During his behavior assessment, he passed with flying colors. Here at the farm, we have not experienced reactive or aggressive behavior from him. He has joined us on outings for pup cups and trips to Lowe’s where he happily greeted new adults with a loose, wagging tail—and even jumped up to offer a few enthusiastic hugs. With staff he is friendly, cooperative, and eager to engage. Hank does have some resource guarding tendencies around food, particularly when he is in his crate. Because of this, he will need to be fed separately from other dogs and should never be given a bowl of food around other pets. Management of food time will be important for his long-term success. While Hank could live as an only dog, we believe he would benefit from having another confident, well-balanced dog in the home. He absolutely loves to play with other dogs, and that social interaction helps him stay engaged and adaptable. The right canine companion—paired with thoughtful management during feeding—can be a wonderful outlet for him. Hank will also need continued work on leash manners, as he does pull when walking. With regular exercise, training, and positive guidance, he should continue improving quickly. What is my personality like? Most of all, Hank is a deeply affectionate and people-loving dog . He enjoys being with his humans, exploring the outdoors, and running freely in a big field. He would happily join his family for hikes, beach days, or car rides—he absolutely loves the car. He also does wonderfully for grooming and baths and is calm and cooperative on the grooming table. What we see today is a sweet, energetic young dog who simply needs the right structure, boundaries, and understanding. For the right adopter—someone experienced, patient, and committed to providing a stable, child-free home—Hank will be an incredibly loyal, loving companion who is ready for a fresh start and a life full of adventure and connection. How do I act when I first meet new people? Hank greets adults with a happy wag and a hug. There have been a few people Hank has been wary with when in public, but he has not barked, lunged or growled at them during our handling at the farm. Instead we ignore the person causing the nervousness and continue moving. With this Hank has learned to mostly ignore people. With people he is comfortable around he is happy and playful, loves to give hugs and he will crawl into your lap for pets. Other tips and tidbits: Hank's birthday is 11/10/2024 House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
