About Petunia

THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TEXAS. THEIR ADOPTION DONATION IS $575 AND INCLUDES TRANSPORT. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO, AS IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ADOPTION AND SCREENING PROCESS. Our process begins with an application. If we believe it may be a good match, we will reach out to schedule a phone interview, followed by a video call with the foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and veterinary reference checks, are required to complete the adoption process. Once approved, the dog will be placed on the next available transport, which runs every few weeks and is included in the adoption donation. If you are not able to welcome a dog until a later date, please wait to apply until that time. We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to help these dogs find homes. If you are not serious about moving forward with the adoption process, please do not apply. If other people in your household are part of the decision, please make sure they are fully on board before submitting an application. This helps ensure we respect everyone’s time. ___
Petunia is a 14-week-old, female Lab mix being fostered in HOUSTON, TX, with a curious spirit, a loving heart, and a personality that’s just starting to shine. This sweet pup was found all alone after being dumped, but despite that rough start, she’s showing just how resilient and loving she truly is. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of everything—whether that’s following her people around, learning from other dogs, or curling up for cuddles when she needs a little comfort. Petunia is available for adoption out-of-state. Transport can be arranged for approved adopters. Please note, our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we’ll reach out to coordinate a phone interview, followed by a video call with her foster home. A virtual home visit, plus personal and vet reference checks, are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation. Petunia enjoys playing with other dogs and especially loves a good round of play fighting. She can get a little carried away in her excitement and is still learning when it’s time to take a break, but she’s already showing that she can settle with time. She tends to mirror the behavior of other dogs, so a confident, well-mannered dog in the home could be a great influence for her. She has done well with a 30 lb dog and would do best with a playful companion who can help guide her interactions. On leash, Petunia is easygoing and happy to follow along, especially if another dog is leading the way. She enjoys stopping to sniff and explore her surroundings (and occasionally tries to taste-test things along the way), so continued guidance will help her build great leash manners. She has been around cats and is cautious but respectful, showing that she can likely coexist peacefully with proper introductions. Petunia hasn’t been around children yet, but based on her affectionate and social nature, she may do well in a home with kids who are respectful and supervised as she continues to learn boundaries. Petunia is about 75% house-trained and catching on quickly to routines. She is currently working on crate training and is making great progress—she can be crated for about 3–5 hours and is learning to settle more comfortably each day. She may whine a bit if she’s not tired or can’t see her person, but this is already improving with consistency. Like all puppies her age, Petunia is still working on housebreaking and crate training, so she’ll need a home that can provide patience, structure, and consistency. Because she’s young and learning, she’ll do best in an environment where someone is around more often to support her development, keep her engaged, and help her continue building good habits. Petunia would thrive with active, involved adopters who are committed to helping her learn and grow—whether that’s with another dog companion or humans who are ready to give her the time, attention, and guidance she needs to succeed. She should be fed separately from other dogs so she can enjoy her meals without distraction. She has no issues with people around food and absolutely loves toys, treats, and especially a good bone to chew on. She is outgoing, curious, playful, and very affectionate. When she’s feeling unsure or just wants comfort, she’ll come right in for cuddles, showing how deeply she bonds with her people. She can be cautious when meeting new people and may occasionally growl, but this is just her way of learning to communicate and navigate the world. In the car, she does well but may whine a bit if she’s in a carrier. She’s also getting the hang of stairs—confident going down and still learning on the way up. Petunia is incredibly adaptable and eager to learn. She’s already picking up on routines and taking cues from the dogs around her, which makes her a wonderful candidate for continued training and growth. Her ideal home is one that is patient, engaged, and ready to help a young dog blossom into her best self. With the right guidance and love, Petunia is going to make an incredibly loyal and fun companion. If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, and affectionate puppy who will grow right alongside you, Petunia might be your girl. ___ ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
