Penelope is the kind of dog who feels like a quiet song at first... and then, once you really hear her, you wonder how you ever missed her. 🖤 Found as a stray, her past is a bit of a mystery--but what we *do* know is that she's been busy writing a much happier next chapter. When Penelope first arrived, the shelter felt big and overwhelming, and she took her time figuring it all out. Now? She's blossomed into a playful, joyful girl who absolutely lights up when it's time to chase a ball or soak up some good ol' butt scratches. She looks like a Flat-Coated Retriever mix, with that classic black coat and soft, soulful eyes, and we estimate her to be around 3-6 years old. At about 49 pounds, she's the perfect "not too big, not too small" size--just right for couch lounging *and* backyard zoomies. Penelope seems like she may have had some house manners in her previous life, and she keeps her space tidy, which gives us hope that potty training won't be a steep learning curve. Because of her gentle, slightly sensitive nature, Penelope would likely do best in a quieter home with older kids (or no kids) where she can continue to build confidence at her own pace. We're still learning how she feels about other dogs and cats, so meet-and-greets will be important. Once she trusts you, Penelope is pure sunshine--playful, affectionate, and so, so happy to just be *with* her people. She's not the kind of dog who demands the spotlight... but give her a little time, and she'll absolutely steal your heart anyway.
