About Trooper
Trooper is an “almost” 5 yr old Fox Red Lab that came into rescue from a farm in Lancaster. Trooper has not lived in a home before but has acclimated greatly and has no hesitancy with doors, steps or normal household noises. We are currently gating him in a room with us to assist with housebreaking. If not gated, he will go to the door when he needs to go out but if we don’t see him, he will have an accident. Trooper is crated when we go out because he is still working on housebreaking and he also likes to counter-surf looking for food. He sleeps on the floor or a dog bed in the bedroom. Trooper knows “Sit” and is working on “Down” and “Wait”. He has a gentle mouth when taking treats unless he gets overexcited with the other dogs around. Trooper loves to spend time outside exploring the yard. He loves toys and always grabs one when going outside. If the resident dog has a toy in her mouth, Trooper will take it, she will sometimes get into a Tugging Match but he’s bigger and stronger and usually wins. He loves to chew on toys and will destuff some but others he will toss in the air and chase after it. Trooper walks well on leash and does not pull much unless he sees another dog. He does not bark but will try to tug you over to say “Hi”. He loves attention and getting pets. So much so that if another dog is getting attention, he will come over and push in to get the attention. He does “jump up” in front of people and at the neighbor’s fence he does a vertical jump almost 4’ high! Luckily, he has not attempted to jump over the fence. Trooper does not guard food/treats or toys from our dogs. We can give them treats together without issues and they all lay near each other when eating their frozen carrots. Trooper allows us to touch him anywhere without any problem. He has an ear infection and comes running over to me when I pick up his eardrops. He had a growth on his head that was removed when he was neutered. The growth was benign, the vet said it was a Histiocytoma which is an “over reaction” of the immune system possibly from a bug bite. Trooper gets along fine with our dogs, but he is much more people-focused than dog-focused. We think he would do okay with another dog. But he would also be fine with being the only dog. Everyone who meets Trooper comments on how sweet and gentle he is. Once you look into his warm, friendly eyes, we think you will fall in love, too!
