Meet Olaf! Olaf is a 4-year-old neutered hound with a gentle heart and a cautious nature. He was surrendered after struggling to coexist with other pets in the home, and he's now looking for a calm, loving home where he can take his time building trust and feeling secure. Olaf can be shy with unfamiliar people. A calm approach and the use of a harness help him feel safe and supported. He seems to do best with people who understand shy or fearful dogs and are committed to positive reinforcement, consistency, and clear boundaries. During a recent field trip, Olaf showed just how wonderful he can be once he settles in. He was excited but a little nervous in the car at first, but did best when he could cuddle close-he even slept in a lap on the ride home. Out on the trail, he was a great hiker with beautiful leash manners-no pulling, and if you stop, he stops right with you. He was gentle taking treats, enjoyed the outing, and loved the lake after the hike. Olaf is especially sweet with people who are calm and kind. He seemed to warm up quickly to gentle, younger kids, but could feel a little overwhelmed in large crowds, often choosing to stay close to his handlers. He was not aggressive or highly reactive to other dogs-he mostly walked right past them-though a very large dog made him uncertain for a moment. He has really warmed up to the volunteers at the shelter and truly enjoys getting pets and attention from the people he trusts. The good news? Olaf is smart and eager to learn-he already knows sit, stay, and shake, especially when treats are involved. And once he warms up, his true personality shines: an affectionate, loyal boy who adores his people and happily soaks up love.
