About Ophelia

Hi, my name is Ophelia! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home: -Personality: Energetic, active, playful, PUPPY!!! -Can Live with Kids: Yes, any age -Can Live with Cats: Unknown history with cats, but likely okay with a proper introduction. Puppies may be overwhelming to shy or senior cats who prefer being left alone. -Can Live with Dogs: Yes, could live with a playful and puppy-tolerant dog pending an initial introduction done here at WHS. -Can do Apartment Living: Not recommended considering we are likely herding breed mixes who will need lots of space. Larger apartments / condos may be okay, but this will be up to WHS staff to decide. -Potty Trained: Working on it! -Bite History: No -Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, a 6 week puppy course -Energy Level: HIGH (herding breed puppies!) -Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a spay -Additional Information: Ophelia, Juliet, and Hamlet are a trio of super cute puppies looking for responsible and permanent homes! These three pups came to the shelter as strays in not-so-great condition. We don't know much about their history, but I think it's safe to assume these babies had never even been inside before being brought to WHS. Luckily they are only about 2 months old and well within their socialization window, so they can make up for that lost time. Like any puppy, Ophelia will need: socialization (this is so important to start at a young age!), consistent positive reinforcement based training, and lots of attention! Puppies cannot be left alone for more than a few hours at a time, so Ophelia will need to go to a home where someone is present often to give her the attention she needs. We cannot be 100% sure about breed, but we suspect these puppies have some heeler or pointer in them. Dogs bred for herding and hunting are extremely intelligent and high energy. They will need a considerable amount of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them occupied, and would therefore do best with an active person who will bring them along on their adventures. YOU might be a great fit for a puppy if you: are responsible, patient, and willing to put in effort; have a flexible schedule; are financially ready to take on the cost of vet care, training, and supplies; are active and outdoorsy! If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
