About Madonna
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Madonna, who now goes by Maddie is a sweet, affectionate silly girl who equally loves playtime and relaxing in your lap. She loves walks, toys and romping around the backyard, playfully "guarding" the perimeter from birds and wind rustled trees. She has a medium energy level that comes out with a nice walk or toy chase in the backyard. After a bit of excercise she adores a nice nap in your lap. She is house trained and enjoys her two daily meals in her crate. While not fully crate trained, she does not get anxious in the crate and with some work I believe she could find her crate to be a safe haven. But she is a perfect angel when left alone to roam in the house. She loves a good bark when people or trucks pass by and we have been working on a "quiet" command that works really well when inside the house. In the backyard it is less effective but her cute little yaps are endearing and not bothersome. She has done very well with our senior dog and I think she would thrive in a house with a smaller dog companion or even as an only dog. She desperately begs for our dog to play with her and gets a good zoomie in while my dog ignores her. She is curious of dogs when out on walks but has yet to approach any of them. She is anxious around children and new people but gives so much love to her humans. She knows sit, but gets a little too excited for the stay command. She does excellent on walks and is very curious of everything around her. She has yet to use the bathroom on a walk but I think she'll understand in time. It's not an issue because she does go potty outside in our backyard. She is very food motivated and enjoys her two meals a day and treat rewards throughout the day. She will eat anything you put down so just be aware of how much food she is getting and if anything drops on the floor. Even being food motivated, she does not beg and does not guard her bowls. She also loves her toys, cuddling them, chasing them, chewing on them. She likes to hoard them in our bedroom which is super cute. She will sleep in a ball at the bottom of your feet or in between your legs, but also sleeps in her bed when yours is unavailable. You can expect to wake up and be greeted immediately with a kiss and a belly rub demand. She gets let out to potty and then enjoys her morning breakfast. After breakfast she likes to run around the backyard followed by a late morning nap. We have been taking her on 2 walks daily and she really enjoys it. She honestly just wants to be by her humans side and her energy level is determined by you. If you want to walk, she'll walk, if you need to work make sure your lap is free and she'll settle in. She loves her soft jerky as treats but doesn't say no to any food related item offered to her. This will make her very easy to train further!!! Maddie will do best in a home on the quieter side with no children. She would adore someone who is looking to get out and get some light exercise and who wants a lap dog once back home. I do believe she would get along well with another dog as she has a desire to play but would be a great only dog as well. She is a textbook dachshund through and through. Loyal and affectionate with her people but weary of strangers. She is very smart and with regular excercise and treats she has been very easy to train. She is eager to learn and wants to please her people. Maddie will be your best friend once she identifies you as her human companion. She is the biggest lover; sweet, affectionate, goofy and an absolute joy to be around.
