About Bruce
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. MEET BRUCE! Big boy Bruce is ready to find that special someone who will help him continue to slim down to a healthy weight and explore ways to support him through his journey with Degenerative Myelopathy. Weighing in at 28.8 lbs, trimming down will go a long way towards preserving Brucey's mobility. We are not saying it will be easy, as Bruce is very food motivated and a bit protective of his vittles, but he loves his walks! In fact, he is not a big fan of being picked up. He will give a little growl when you try. Fear not though, Bruce loves to snuggle and is super affectionate. Bruce has made great strides already in his foster home since starting his diet and exercise regime and taking a joint supplement. Soon he will be at fighting weight and ready to take on all that his new rescue life has to offer! Bruce is a bit of a ham, and as you can see by his handsome mug that it will not be a challenge to pay him some attention. In fact, you will not have a choice as he demands pats and skritches. He likes meeting new people and dogs but especially loves having someone to call his own. Given his druthers, he'd be by your side all day! He also gets along well with other dogs. He likes to be BMOC (big man on campus) and can be a little pushy, but it is all in good fun. He does do some resource guarding, so feeding separately will be the safest approach if you have other pets, and no little hands trying to mess with his dinner. He has lived with children in the past and does enjoy their playful energy. Some of Bruces favorite things are carrots, blueberries and playing with toys. A quirky thing he does that has his foster mom in stiches every time, is chasing her around the house for attention. Did we mention he's a bit of a ham? He knows the sit command, but with a handful of blueberries we think he'd be a quick study for learning even more tricks. Bruce is crate trained, house trained, does well on the leash and loves car rides. He even is a good boy for grooming! Bruce will alert you to deliveries and let you know when company is approaching, but he is not overly vocal otherwise. With his mobility issues, we will be seeking single story living for Bruce. Especially since he does not prefer to be picked up. He will sleep on a bed on the floor, so sleeping in bed with his person is not a requirement for Bruce. Any stairs in the home should be gated, and he should be discouraged from jumping on and off furniture. We would love to see Bruce find a home where his family would seek out acupuncture and other supportive measures for his DM. His joint supplement costs about $40 monthly. What do you think? Are you up for the honor of shepherding this freakishly adorable boy into his bright future? Are you seeking a new best friend who will happily accompany you on walks as you get your step count up? Would you like to be the one who keeps him mobile for as long as he can be and will be there for him if and when it fails? Bruce will not disappoint. This playful, velcro, affectionate and funny boy with a stubborn streak is ready to rock your world!
