About Henry

**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics. Hello, my name is Henry, or handsome Henry or even King Henry as my foster mom calls me. I am a sweet six month old Newfoundland (??)/Great Pyrenees mix that weighs in at around 60 pounds. I was surrendered by my owner to a vet after I was hit by a car with both back legs broken. The vet did surgery to repair both legs and kept me for six weeks getting me rehabbed and back on my feet. I then went to a foster where I had three small dogs to stay with until I could hitch a ride to New York. I did really well with the smaller dogs all though they at first were scared because I was so much bigger than they were. I am almost completely house trained, if I need, or just want to go out, I will wake you up with a lick and whine. During the day I will go to the door and whine to get your attention. I love being outside but I don't have an inside voice so be aware that I will definitely try to be your protector against everything! I do sleep overnight but you will need to keep me away from food and water to make that happen because if I drink water then need to potty, and I don't know a concept of time so I will wake you up to go out. I eat well and love a nice treat! I like soft toys but I'm not always sure what to do with them. I am currently sleeping on two blankets piled on top of one another because foster mom doesn't have a bed big enough for me. Let's talk about my legs, my right back leg may end up being a little shorter than my left but that does not stop me from being able to run which I can definitely do! I don't seem to notice the difference and am allowed to go at my own pace. It takes me a few moments to get going once I stand up so a nice soft bed would be nice and hopefully helpful. I sometimes love being outside so much I don't always want to come back in and may make a game of your attempt to get me in. My foster mom figured out if you put a leash on me I become very compliant, thank you vet staff, and will walk back into the house with you very meekly. This comes in handy with my going to be a really big boy when I am fully grown. If you are looking for a protector who will love you unconditionally with this big ole heart of mine I would love to apply for the lifetime job! Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
