About Tucker
Tucker Tucker is a gentle, soulful Great Dane who is learning what safety and stability truly feel like. Around 2-3 years old, he came to us alongside his brother from heartbreaking living conditions. They had been living in dirt pens, severely underweight, with open sores and clear signs of neglect. They were surrendered to someone their family believed was a rescue, but that was unfortunately not the case. When they were no longer "useful," they were going to be dumped at a full shelter. Thankfully, shelter staff intervened - and we were able to step in and say yes. Since entering rescue, Tucker has experienced a tremendous amount of change in a very short period of time. New people, new environments, new routines - and if you know Great Danes, you know they feel everything deeply. Tucker is not reactive or aggressive; he is simply nervous and easily overwhelmed while he adjusts. He is a sensitive boy who needs patience, structure, and reassurance as he builds confidence. He is very food motivated and responds beautifully to gentle guidance. With a little time, he will come right up for treats and soft affection. He walks successfully on a double leash and continues to make progress every day. One of Tucker's biggest strengths is how much he thrives with other dogs - they help him feel secure and show him the ropes. Because of this, we believe he would do best in a home with at least one confident canine companion. Tucker would do best in a calmer home environment, ideally outside of a busy downtown setting. Loud, high-traffic areas can be overstimulating for him right now. What he truly needs is consistency, kindness, and adopters who understand that decompression is a process. Given time and stability, this boy absolutely blossoms. Underneath his nervous exterior is a sweet, loving, incredibly deserving dog who just wants to feel safe again. Tucker has been through more than any dog should - now he's ready for a forever home that will give him the patience, compassion, and security he has always deserved.
