Because there aren't rescues in the Carolinas for Kangal shepherds, Anatolian shepherds, Komondors, Maremmas, Akbash, Kuvasz, Karakachans, etc., we often take them in if they end up in the shelter system. Is it fluffy, stubborn, and protective? Then, yeah, we try to help. That explains how we ended up with Cosmo and Tugle, two juvenile brothers. They came through a shelter partner labeled as Kangal shepherd dogs. Spoiler: they are not. Once they arrived at the rescue, we were pretty sure that they were a mix of things. Wonderful things. Maybe including Kangal, but we would be guilty of false advertising if we labeled them as pure Kangals. So we are calling them "Fangals," which is short for *fake* Kangals! Y'all, if "doodle" can be a thing, Fangal can be a thing! And so Cosmo and Tugle are Fangals, which is a new "designer" breed! Anyways, we DNA tested Tugle, and he is a mix of six breeds. They are neutered, fully vaccinated, and negative for heartworms. Each would thrive in their own home with a large, female dog who doesn't take shit and experienced guardian dog owners.
